Should I go with Iphone 6/6plus or 6S

Hi all,

It's that time again: three years with the 4S and I'm ready to enter the present. I've got a fantastic - for canada at least - phone plan which I do not want to lose, so I will be purchasing a new phone outright rather than on a contract. I'm just not sure whether to go with the 6Plus or 6S. They appear to be very close in price; I believe the 6S might even be cheaper by a bit. I really do like the idea of a larger screen, so a plus model might be nice. But the faster speds and improved camera of the 6S are appealing also. I've also heard horror stories about 6 and 6 plusses bending. Has anyone experienced both? I've looked at reviews but would really like some user feedback.

Can't recommend a plus of which ever model enough. I've never had a bending problem, and battery life is off the charts great with my 6+. If not too costly, there's no good reason not to upgrade to the latest device, especially if you only upgrade every 3/4 years. Not sure how accessible 3d touch is yet, but the reviews I've read can't praise it enough. I'd also imagine having a camera 50% better than the current generation is good for OCR applications.

It's all a matter of preference, honestly. If you want a larger screen, then get the 6S+. If you want the new standard-sized screens, which are already larger than you might be use to since you presently use a 4S, then you might as well just stick with the 6S. I highly doubt that the 6S+ is cheaper than the 6S, so you probably misread something there.
As for the phones bending, they tended to only bend if some moron decided "hey, I'm going to stick my phone in my back pocket". Incidentally, I would argue that any person with an ounce of intelligence should stick their phone in their front pocket if they're going to put it in a pocket. Otherwise, a lot worse things will tend to happen to it than bending.

The bending issue is suppose to be solved in the 6S+.
If you have sight, or even a small amount, the 6S+ is going to be better.
If you don't, the 6S is fine.
You are talking in the US 100 difference, and sometimes they'll have promotions.
If you don't like big things to store, the 6S will be best.
You'll be the larger screen then you currently have.
If money's a problem, go 6, but being you only upgrade every 3 years, go for the latest.

Thanks all. I decided if I'm going to spend an exorbitant amount on a phone I might as well go all out. Got the 6S plus with a 64GB upgrade, because 16GB is a joke in this day and age. I got it from Apple's website, so I should get it in ... 3 to 4 WEEKS!

I got my 6S yesterday. Even that is too big for my liking, so there's no way in heck I'd get a plus. I love the speed of the new phone, but that larger screen is a bitch. Wish I could combine the power and speed of the 6S into something the size of the 4 and 4S, or even the 5 and 5S. Oh well, the market has decided that as far as cell phones go, bigger is better, so I'll get used to it.

Blind Guardian, glad you were able to upgrade. I think you were smart to go with the most recent model. If they were comparable in price, then there's no point in going with an older phone. I remember going from an iPhone 4 to a 5S the first time I upgraded, and it seemed to run like greased lightning as far as speed compared to my old phone. Even now, the 6S is noticeably faster then the 5S, so I can't even imagine going from 4S to 6S. Have fun with your new toy when you get it. Grins.

I ordered my 6S yesterday. Decided to treat myself with my scholarship money because I can.

I personally am excited about the bigger screen, but everybody is different.

From the 5S 3.9 inch to the 6 and 6S S 4.7 it is an adjustment.
It grows on you after a week.
I set my view to standard, and that takes care of the problem of everything being at the top.
Sweet device.
Ladies, did you go for the new Rose Gold, or pink color?
I've used the iPad, so the 6 6S+ would really just be to large.
The iPad is like feeling a table top, and that plus is just to big too.
People like it though.

I personally love my iPhone 6. The speed is much faster than my five was, the phone is overall more reliable, the sound is clearer, ETC.
Hope that helps.

No Reel Wayne, I didn't get the rose gold. From the way it was described to me by a couple sighted friends, it seemed a bit girlie for my taste. I got the regular silver/white one. Grey and black seemed a bit boring, and gold too much bling. Also, I did set my view to standard, no way I was going with the other one. I probably would have pushed my 5S longer, but I had reached my upgrade date with Verizon. I got the 6S for 199, and they gave me 206 when I traded in my 5S, so it was basically a free phone. Only big expense up front was the two years of AppleCare.

The 6S is too big for my liking also, so I went with that instead of the Plus. I've seen the 6 and had to train people on it, so the adjustment hasn't been that big. The only advantages I can see to a 6S Plus as a totally blind user are the additional screen space for Braille Screen Input and the additional battery life.

I got a pink phone. I dunno why, I just did. I think it was something about the words...rose gold. lol

Post 14 by forereel (Just posting.) on Sunday, 27-Sep-2015 15:19:52

Yes, the Rose Gold is girlie. I thought it was going to be more like a red gold, or a gold with tent, but this ones pink.
Pretty, really.
I've read some are taking this color, because at a distance, it is the only way to tell you have the new model.
I like the silver as well. It is a bit of flash, but understated.
Plus, it matches my dresses and shoes. *laughing.

I still don't get why people like the Plus phones. It'd be like holding an iPad to your ear. Speaking of which, I do kind of wonder how much different in size there is between the 6S Plus, and the iPad Mini. I bet not much.

Lakeria, silly as it is, I do get what you mean about getting the pink one because of the words rose gold. It does sound like something unique and pretty, and I actually did consider it for a few minutes. Friends did tell me that it is pretty. I just couldn't get past the girlie factor.

Post 16 by forereel (Just posting.) on Sunday, 27-Sep-2015 22:38:40

Ipad Mini's 7.9 inches. The plus is 5.5 inches.
It is way bigger.
The plus is actually comfortable to hold ande talk on, because it is no wider then the 4.7 you have, just taller.
The iPad mini doesn't have an earpiece either. Smile.

For me, I went with the plus because, since I do have some sight, it will help me see more than what I could on my little 4S. It will still fit in my pants pocket, and that was really the only thing I was worried about. More space for braille input and a slightly bigger batter might be nice too. Has anyone tried the 6S with the KNFB reader app by any chance? I'm hoping the 12 megapixel camera will make scanning even more reliable. I've been waiting to get my hands on a reliable OCR application.

I picked up my gold iphone 6s+ in 128 gb on Friday night. Man the apple store was packed, was in there in a few minuts, but after unpairing my apple watch from my old phone the 5s, restoring from backups as I was about to travel and needed wifi, and shooting the shit with the specialists in the apple store while my phone did its thing, I was in there for 2.5 hours. As far as the speed I love love love it! In my unboxing video I did a start up compairison to my 5s, and there was a 6.5 second difference. Touch ID 2.0 is a bit too fast because I am used to waking up my phone with the home button, but just the act of me pushing it unlocks my phone. Got to get used to that. And force touch or 3d touch what ever you want to call it, is amazing with voice over! I couldn't be mor pleased. O and lets not forget the better battery life.

Post 19 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 28-Sep-2015 17:14:49

Remember, it has a battery save mode. That is a feature of the OS.

Post 20 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 28-Sep-2015 18:03:12

Yep, I too have found that now just by touching my home button with the finger I used for touch ID, it wakes up. If I want to wake it up only enough to look at the time but not unlock it, I have to use another finger to push the home button.

Guardian, yes, I've used KNFB reader with my 6S, and it works great. The one thing I sometimes have to do is make sure it's the only app running when I use it. It takes up so many resources that if I have other apps going at the same time, even just in the background, KNFB Reader doesn't work for shit. But if it's the only app, it works just fine.

Wow, Really Alicia? Even on the relatively new Iphone 6 it is that resource intensive? Well, as lo9ng as it works. Hopefully with the new camera it will be able to scan blocks of text on computer and TV screens. I've heard it isn't really made for that, but if conditions are right here's hoping.

Post 22 by BigDogDaddy (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Tuesday, 29-Sep-2015 16:48:23

Slight correction, at post 16, the s plus is wider than the standard S model by just under a half inch according to the apple tech specs. I use my colleagues 6 from time to time, and it feels weird in my hand now given all the time I've used the +.

Post 23 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 01-Oct-2015 12:06:14

The only thing I had forgotten about is the setup voice when you activate Voice Over for the first time.
He sounds simply drunk. I hate it! Lol
Maybe I'm just parshal to Sarah.
I had backed up my settings, and hated trying to set the phone up so much with him, I gave up and loaded them.
*sigh* Now I was good. Lol

Post 24 by Remy (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 01-Oct-2015 14:57:23

I'm not worried about that too much. A little concernned about this IOS 9 getting so much flack for however.

Post 25 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 01-Oct-2015 22:53:13

Well, your phone comes with, so. Smile.
Mine is working just fine, and better then 8 in many respects.

Post 26 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 01-Oct-2015 22:58:31

The voice isn't a problem, you can get around him easy enough, but, I don't like him.
He was also on my 6 when I started it up the first time too. Lol
